Regristration for Conferences is now open

August 31st – September 2nd, 2011- 11th Congress of the French Political Science Association

 During the 11th Congress of the French Political Science Association (AFSP), the research group “Comparative Political and Administrative Sciences” (Science politique comparée des administrations  - SPCA) will be organizing a panel that will take up the topic of “Comparison of German and French Reform(s) of Public Administration”, which will take place in Strasbourg from August 31st to September 2nd, 2011.  Panel Chairs are Prof. Dr. Jean-Michel Eyméry-Douzans (Toulouse), Prof. Dr. Sabine Kuhlmann (Speyer) and Prof. Dr. Alistair Cole (Cardiff). The call for papers, in German and French, can be found here and here, respectively.  Suggestions for contributions, in English or French, can be directed by email to kuhlmann@dhv-speyer.de (max. 1 A4 page) up to October 17th, 2010. French and English shall be the languages used during the conference (the panel shall use English). 

 

June 25th, 2010 – Volume “Kommunale Aufgabenwahrnehmung im Wandel”

The volume “Kommunale Aufgabenwahrnehmung im Wandel: Kommunalisierung, Regionalisierung und Territorialreform in Deutschland und Europe”, editted by Jörg Bogumil and Sabine Kuhlmann, is now released by VS-Verlag under the catagory of “Stadtforschung aktuell” in June 2010.  More information pertaining to the contents can be found here The introductory chapter can be found here.

 

June 16th, 2010 - Inaugural Lecture

On the 16th of June Prof. Dr. Sabine Kuhlmann hold her inaugural lecture at DHV Speyer. Before an audience comprised of political and administrative scientists as well as students from DHV Speyer, she gave a lecture on the topic of "Comparative Administrative Science: Administrative Modernization through an International Perspective". June 16th, 2010 - Lecture on "Local Politics in Greece - Reform and Obstructions"
On June 16th Prof. Dr. Panagiotis Getimis, Professor of Urban and Regional Planning in Athens, gave a lecture on this subject before listeners from DHV Speyer at the colloquium "Current approaches and practical examples of administration" , headed by Prof. Dr. Sabine Kuhlmann, on June 16th.

 

May 5th, 2010 – Graduate Honors

On April 27th the ceremonial conferring of the Magister degrees by the president of DHV Speyer took place.  Marcus Dittrich, student aide to the Chairholder, was the fourth best of his graduating class. The Chairholder would like cordially congratulate him and all other graduates, especially those from abroad.(Photos from the ceremony)

March 16th 2010 - Spring Newsletter DVPW

The spring newsletter from the German Association for Political Science (Deutschen Vereinigung für Politische Wissenschaft) is forthcoming. You can find the contribution from the working committee "Local Political Research" (Lokale Politikforschung/LOPOFO) along with information pertaining to upcoming conferences and the newest publications here.

 

March 15th 2010 - "Politische Bildung" 1/2010 Edition to be released

The new edition of the journal “Politische Bildung”, which will focus on local affairs, is to be released.  This edition contains, among others, an article by Dr. Sabine Kuhlmann about “Reform of local Politics in Germany: Direct and Cooperative Democracy” (Original Title: “Reformen lokaler Politik in Deutschland: direkte und kooperative Demokratie”). 32nd EGPA Annual Conference 7 - 10 September 2010 in Toulouse

The call for papers by the Permanent Study Group IV "Local Governance and Democracy" has been released. The session will also include a special panel covering the theme of "Decentralization, Regionalization, and Territorial Consolidation: From Incremental Adjustments to 'Paradigm Shifts' at the Sub-national Level of Government?", which will be lead by Prof. Kuhlmann and Prof. Bogumil (RUB). The deadline for the submission of proposals is May 1st, 2010. Further information about Study Group IV can be found here and information pertaining to the special panel can be found here.

 

January 21th 2010 – Nomos-Sammelband “Verwaltung und Raum”

In the series “Writings of the German Section of the International Institute for Administrative Sciences”, the current anthology “Verwaltung und Raum: Zur Diskussion um Leistungsfähigkeit und Integrationsfunktion von Verwaltungseinheiten“, editted by Dieter Schimanke, Nomos Verlagsgesellschaft, Baden-Baden, is to be released in 2010. Therein is a contribution from Prof. Dr. Sabine Kuhlmann under the title „Siegeszug der Territorialität? Dezentralisierungsprofile und -wirkungen in Westeuropa" (S. 101-125), which is also available hereThe basis for establishing the volume was the annual conference of the German Section of the IIAS in Potsdam in 2008.
